Volodymyr Zelensky

Former comedian and TV actor turned wartime president. Zelensky's decision to remain in Kyiv during the Russian invasion transformed him into a global symbol of democratic resistance. His confrontation with Trump in the Oval Office in March 2025 was one of the most consequential diplomatic moments of the year.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky was born on January 25, 1978, in Kryvyi Rih. He built a career as a comedian and actor, most notably playing the fictional president in the TV show Servant of the People — which became his actual political party. He ran for president on an anti-corruption platform in 2019 and won with 73% of the vote. When Russia invaded in February 2022, his refusal to evacuate — 'I need ammunition, not a ride' — defined his leadership.
